Congratulations to the more than 2,300 Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole participants, coaches, 5K Buddies and community runners that participated in the 2024 Spring Girls on the Run 5K presented by Assurant! Along with plenty of smiles, glitter and Star Power for the nearly 1,200 Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole participants this spring, the 5K celebration was the culmination of 12 weeks of hard work and dedication as the girls participated in lessons to foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage service – all while working toward their goal of completing a 5K. Proceeds from the Girls on the Run 5K benefit the Girls on the Run Scholarship Fund, which helps ensure all girls – regardless of their family’s financial status – are able to participate in our program this fall.

Much gratitude also goes out to all our volunteer coaches who provided guidance and encouragement to our program participants throughout the spring season as well as the many 5K volunteers who helped make the 5K celebration possible!

Mark your calendars for our fall 5K happening on December 7, 2024! More details coming soon.

We need volunteers for the following activities to ensure our event is a success!

  • 5K Number Pickup
  • Registration
  • Parking
  • Water Station
  • Festival Area
  • Merchandise
  • Course Monitors
  • Greeters and Directional Helpers (including Spanish speakers)
  • Set Up / Tear Down

If you have a group that is interested in volunteering at our fall 5K happening early December (date tbd), email us.

The Girls on the Run 5K is truly a celebration of all the girls who participated in our program this season and the ways that they shine! The event is not timed and non-competitive, and participants are encouraged to run, walk, jump or skip their way to the finish! And with proceeds from this uplifting event benefitting the Girls on the Run Scholarship Fund, which allows more girls to participate in our program next season, the 5K will no doubt leave you feeling inspired long after you’ve crossed the finish line.

The fall Girls on the Run 5K will take place the weekend of December 7.

Location TBD. Please check our website periodically for updates.

Online registration will open up early fall. Please check back periodically for the direct registration link.

Please remember, all fall season coaches and participants are already registered for the 5K as part of their program registration. There is no need to register them again.

Yes, spectators are allowed and encouraged at the event. Spectators should bring their own chairs, if needed.

Yes, in-person registration for the 5K will be available for $40 from 7:30 am – 8:45 am at Cheney Stadium on event morning. T-shirts are not guaranteed for those registering in person.

No. Coaches will pick up 5K numbers and T-shirts for their teams on 5K morning and will distribute them to their teams.

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles. Course map coming soon.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

First, we understand that life happens, and circumstance might make it not possible to attend the 5K celeberation.

We do encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long. It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!

No. All currently enrolled girls, as well as coaches, are already registered for the 5K as part of their program registration. There is no need to register them again.

Yes! Family, friends and community members outside of our program can participate in the event, but must register.

For the safety of all our participants, spectators and volunteers, furry friends are not allowed on the course or at the event. Please leave all pets at home on 5K day! Owners will be asked to return their pet to their vehicle if pets are spotted at the event.

A 5K Buddy is an individual designated by the council or by the parent/guardian to complete the 5K alongside a program participant during the 5K event, for the entire duration of the course.

Yes, every girl will need a 5K Buddy for the 5K. 5K Buddies must be 16 or older and may be family members, caregivers, teachers or anyone else who will help ensure the girl’s safety and provide her with support throughout the 5K. Coaches may also be 5K Buddies for up to three girls of similar pace. All 5K Buddies must register for the event. Families that qualify for reduced lunch receive one discounted or free entry for their 5K Buddy.

For safety reasons, every participant must register for the 5K and wear a race bib (provided by the council). Our council ensures every participant has a Running Buddy, and only critical 5K volunteers have access to confidential information.

To ensure every participant crosses the finish line, we have safety monitors and police officers throughout the course. Working with the venue and local police and on-site security, our council has a safety plan, which trains staff and volunteers on how to respond during an emergency or incident.

Rain won’t keep our Star Power from shining bright at our 5K celebration! The Girls on the Run 5K is a rain or shine event, and all 5K registrations are non-refundable.

In cases of inclement weather, changes to the event schedule may occur. If you opted into the Emergency Alert System during online registration, you will receive text message alerts if the event schedule changes.

Yes! As this is the highlight of the season, there will be Happy Hair stations, temporary tattoos, giveaways, dancing and more! Of course, we’ll have Girls on the Run merchandise for sale, too!

Girls on the Run 5K entries are non-refundable. Event management reserves the right to cancel or modify the event due to unfavorable conditions. Registration fees are not refundable in the event of cancellation due to weather or other safety concerns.

To help spread participants out before and during the 5K, the event has seven start waves. Each participating team and community participant has been assigned a Zone which is designated on your 5K number, and each Zone has a designated start wave time assigned to it.

We are so grateful to all our local partners who support us through their investment in Girls on the Run. Together we’re creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
