About
Girls on the Run is more than a program. It is a philosophy – a way of being. Girls on the Run is a life-changing character development program for girls in third through eighth grades (ages 8-14) that uses the power of running to teach every girl about her personal power and the importance of being healthy and active. The after-school programs combine training to participate in a running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts and a community service project.
- Our Programs, led by certified, volunteer Girls on the Run coaches, run for 12 weeks twice a year, in fall and spring, and consist of 8-15 girls per group. Participants meet twice a week for 90 minutes after school or on weekends.
- We have two programs – Girls on the Run for girls in 3rd through 5th grade, and Girls on Track for girls in 6th through 8th grade.
- Girls on the Run of Atlanta currently offers programs in 4 counties within greater Atlanta: Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett.
- Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K running event with healthy living education.
- Our programs instill self-esteem and strong values through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training – all through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, and the community. Since 2000 we have served over 6,000 girls throughout Atlanta.
